Fortune 500 company hires ransomware gang to hack competition.
A recent paper published by the Fsecure security firm unveiled a pretty ugly truth about how some companies are beating the competition.
Fsecure was able to interview a member of a ransomeware gand hired to hack a competative business. The ransomeware was used to disrupt the day to day operations at an unnamed competitors business. Although all they did was lock files for ransom there was no indication that sensitive information was stolen.
This type of attack is sort of a legal grey area as no information was stolen. The only legal action that could be taken is for unauthorized access to a computer system, which would most likely result in a fine, a drop in the bucket for corporations this large.
We truly do live in the wild west of cyber war. No law and order, just thieves and our data.
